🛡️ NFPA 211 CompliantCSIA Standards🔧 Fully Insured

Chimney inspections are the foundation of safe fireplace and chimney use — three NFPA 211 inspection levels from annual visual checks to full diagnostic teardowns. Prime Chimney Experts handles this work across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex following NFPA 211 standards. Free inspection, written quote, no surprise fees.

What’s actually involved

Chimney inspection is regulated by NFPA 211 — the National Fire Protection Association’s standard for chimneys, fireplaces, vents, and solid-fuel-burning appliances. The standard defines three inspection levels, each appropriate to specific situations.

Level 1 is the annual baseline — a visual inspection of all readily accessible portions of the chimney, performed before every sweep. Level 2 adds a video scan inside the flue and is required after any change of fuel/appliance, after a chimney fire or seismic event, or for real-estate transactions. Level 3 is a destructive inspection (opening walls or removing components) used when Level 2 reveals serious concealed damage.

We perform all three levels and provide a written report with photos for every inspection. The inspection determines what work, if any, the chimney needs — and gives you documentation you can share with insurance, buyers, or sellers.

If you’re scheduling for routine maintenance, we recommend a Level 1 with your annual sweep. If you’re buying or selling a home with a fireplace, schedule a Level 2 transaction inspection. If a Level 2 has flagged concealed damage, that’s when Level 3 enters the picture.

Why this matters in DFW specifically

DFW homes accumulate chimney problems from a year-round combination of freeze-thaw cycles, hailstorm impact, expansive clay soil movement, and decades-old construction with limited annual fireplace use. Inspection-first is the only honest way to know what the chimney actually needs — phone-quoted scopes are how customers end up paying for the wrong work.

Our process

  1. Schedule the right level — We help you identify the right inspection level for your situation — annual maintenance is Level 1, sale of home or after a fire is Level 2, opening walls is Level 3.
  2. On-site inspection — Trained technician with photo documentation and (for Level 2) video scan equipment. Typical visit 60-120 minutes.
  3. Written report with photos — Findings, condition assessment, and any recommendations — delivered in writing with photo evidence.
  4. Quote any required work — If we find conditions that require repair, we provide a fixed-price written quote — no pressure to schedule on the spot.

Frequently asked questions

Which inspection level do I need?

Level 1 for annual maintenance. Level 2 for real-estate transactions, after any chimney fire, or after appliance change. Level 3 only when Level 2 has revealed concealed damage requiring access through walls or chases.

Do you do real-estate inspections?

Yes — same-week scheduling available, written reports formatted for inclusion in transaction documentation.

How long does an inspection take?

Level 1: 30-60 minutes. Level 2: 60-120 minutes (depends on flue length and access). Level 3: typically half-day to full-day.

Will you pressure me to do repairs?

No. We document findings and quote any required work in writing. You take the quote, get a second opinion if you want, and decide on your timeline.

Are inspections required by law in Texas?

Not by state law for residential homeowners — but they’re required by NFPA 211 (the industry standard), most insurance policies, and most real-estate transactions involving a fireplace.
