The gas control valve is the metered heart of the fireplace's fuel train, and most of what goes wrong with it is restorable without replacing the body. A control knob gone stiff, a wall-key linkage that binds, an external union that weeps, a pilot circuit feeding the valve that's gone weak: these are the faults that repair fixes, and they're the majority of valve calls. The honest boundary of this service is the sealed valve body itself. Modern fireplace gas valves are sealed millivolt or electronic assemblies — the internal seat, diaphragm, and regulator are not user-serviceable, and the manufacturers don't sell rebuild kits for them. So repair lives entirely on the outside and the periphery: we free and lubricate the knob and key-valve stem to manufacturer tolerance, reseat and re-dope the external gas connections, replace the thermocouple or pilot assembly that proves the valve open, and where the valve has an adjustable regulator we set outlet pressure on the manometer to the rating plate. How this differs from fireplace-gas-valve-replace: that service exists for the faults this one can't touch — an internal leak past the seat, a cracked body, an obsolete valve. Repair restores; replace swaps.

It also differs from the ignition-component services in what part of the system it owns. Pilot-assembly-replacement and pilot-light-installation work on the proving and ignition circuit — the flame that tells the valve it's safe to stay open. This service works on the gas control valve that circuit reports to. The two interact (a dead thermocouple and a stuck knob both leave you with no flame), which is why our valve-repair visit always meters the proving circuit too — but the deliverable here is a control valve that turns, holds, and meters correctly, not a new ignition.

Safety governs the whole visit because every fault touches live fuel. The single most important judgment we make is the one a homeowner can't: whether a valve that won't fully shut off or that weeps gas is restorable at all. A loose external connection re-seals and passes a leak test; a valve leaking past its internal seat does not, and we will not return that valve to service — it gets condemned to replacement, not coaxed. We leak-test the shutoff and connector by manometer drop and bubble soap and run an ambient CO check before the remote goes back in your hand.

When the fix is genuinely external — the common case — you keep your existing valve, your existing remote pairing, and your existing burner setup, and the repair is a single visit at a fraction of replacement cost. We carry thermocouples, pilot assemblies, connectors, and the manometer the work requires, so a restorable valve usually goes back into clean, smooth service the same day.

We tell you plainly which side of the line your valve falls on. If freeing the linkage, re-sealing the connections, and renewing the proving circuit brings it back to spec, that's the repair and we're done. If the body itself has failed, we say so directly and move you to replacement rather than billing a repair that can't hold — because a gas valve that 'mostly' shuts off is not a valve we leave in your home.
