Rigid Stainless Liner
Where the flue runs straight, rigid stainless is the better liner. It is heavier-gauge than flex, its smooth interior wall drafts better and holds less creosote, and with no corrugations to trap deposits it sweeps clean and lasts longer in service. We drop it in sections from the top, join and seal each length, insulate the annular space where the appliance and its clearances require it, and finish with a top plate, storm collar and cap so the system is sealed against water. Sizing is not optional: an oversized liner drafts cold and condenses, an undersized one spills. Price moves with flue height, diameter, insulation, and whether the old clay tile has to come out first — the single biggest variable in the job.

The NFPA recommends an annual chimney inspection (Level 1), with sweeping done when buildup reaches 1/8" of creosote. For active wood-burning fireplaces, that's typically once per heating season.
