Multi-Flue Chimney Cap
A chimney carrying two or more flues — a fireplace and a furnace, or two fireplaces — is usually capped with separate lids that leave the crown exposed and the flues competing for draft. A multi-flue cap is a single fabricated stainless or copper lid spanning the whole crown: it covers every flue and the masonry between them, keeps rain off the crown itself, and can be built with a lid height that stops a shorter flue from cross-drafting. We measure the crown, the flue projections and the spacing, then have the cap fabricated to fit rather than trimming a stock part on the roof. Price moves with crown dimensions, flue count and projection, material choice, and roof access.

The NFPA recommends an annual chimney inspection (Level 1), with sweeping done when buildup reaches 1/8" of creosote. For active wood-burning fireplaces, that's typically once per heating season.
