Title (60ch): Our Lifetime Warranty Explained — What’s Covered and Why Description (150ch): A detailed look at what our lifetime workmanship warranty actually covers, why we offer it, and how it works in practice.

The PCE Lifetime Warranty — What It Covers and Why

*By Daniel Ortega, CSIA Certified Master Sweep, F.I.R.E. Certified — Updated May 8, 2026*

The chimney trade is full of warranty language that says less than it appears to say. “Limited warranty,” “warranted for as long as you own the home,” “warranty subject to terms” — most of it has carve-outs that make the coverage meaningless. We do this differently. This page explains exactly what our lifetime warranty covers, what it doesn’t, and the reasoning behind offering it.

TL;DR — The quick answer

The PCE lifetime warranty covers workmanship on every repair, masonry restoration, reline, and rebuild we perform, for as long as the homeowner owns the property. It also includes manufacturer warranty pass-through on installed components (caps, liners, dampers). It excludes acts of God (lightning strike, hail damage, tornado), homeowner-caused damage (chimney fires from improper use), and pre-existing conditions outside our scope. The warranty is documented on every invoice and is transferable in real estate transactions for an additional one-time fee.

What the warranty covers

Workmanship

If we perform a repair and the work fails because of how we did it, we return and re-do the work at no charge. This includes:

  • Mortar joints we repointed that crack from improper mixing or application
  • Crowns we rebuilt that fail at the seam
  • Flashing we installed that leaks at the chimney junction
  • Liner installations that fail from improper sealing or insulation
  • Cap installations that come loose from improper mounting
  • Masonry rebuilds that fail at our connection points

The standard: if our workmanship is the cause of the failure, we own the fix.

Manufacturer pass-through

Components we install — chimney caps, liners, dampers, doors — carry their manufacturer warranties. We honor those warranties on your behalf, handle the manufacturer claim, and perform the replacement labor at no charge.

Documentation

Every repair receives a written invoice that explicitly references the warranty. The invoice is your warranty record; we recommend keeping it with home documents.

What the warranty doesn’t cover

Acts of God

Damage from lightning strikes, hail, tornadoes, ice storms, and other weather events isn’t workmanship-related and isn’t covered. These are insurance-claim events.

Homeowner-caused damage

  • Chimney fires caused by lack of maintenance (skipped sweeps, burning improper materials)
  • Damage from misuse of the fireplace (oversized fires, wet wood, foreign objects)
  • Damage from improper modifications (DIY repairs after our work)
  • Damage from neglect (failure to follow recommended maintenance)

Pre-existing conditions outside our scope

If we repaired your crown but a separate, pre-existing issue (like a failing flue tile we didn’t relate or work on) becomes a problem later, that issue is its own job. We document scope clearly so this is unambiguous.

Wear-item replacement

Items expected to wear out over time — gaskets, ignition components on gas appliances, sealant maintenance — aren’t covered indefinitely. Manufacturer warranty terms apply.

Cosmetic changes

If you painted the chimney after our work and don’t like the look — that’s not a warranty matter.

Why we offer it

Most chimney companies offer 1- or 2-year workmanship warranties. We offer lifetime because:

1. We do the work right the first time. Every repair is documented, photographed, and inspected post-completion. The failure rate of properly executed work is very low.

2. Long warranty pricing protects the customer. A short-warranty cheap job costs the homeowner more over 10 years than a slightly more expensive lifetime-warrantied job.

3. It selects against bad work. A company that warrants its work for life cannot afford to do bad work. The warranty is a forcing function on quality.

4. It builds long relationships. Customers we serve well call us back for the next chimney issue, refer their neighbors, and trust our recommendations.

The math works because we’re careful about scope and execution. We don’t take on work we can’t do well.

How the warranty works in practice

If you have a problem with our work:

1. Call us. ☎ 682-226-6257.

2. We schedule a return visit. Typically within 7–14 days.

3. We inspect. Confirm whether the issue is workmanship-covered or another cause.

4. We re-do the work at no charge if it’s workmanship-covered.

5. If it’s a separate issue, we provide a clear estimate and you decide.

The conversation is straightforward. We don’t make customers fight for warranty service.

Comparison: What “lifetime warranty” means at different companies

| Company type | Warranty language | What it actually means |

|—|—|—|

| PCE | Lifetime workmanship | We re-do failed workmanship indefinitely while you own the home |

| Many competitors | “Lifetime” with carve-outs | Often 1–5 years effective coverage with exclusions |

| Budget operators | 30 days, 90 days, or none | Limited follow-up |

| Manufacturer warranties | Vary by product | 10–lifetime depending on item |

When evaluating any warranty, read the actual document. “Lifetime” with extensive carve-outs is sometimes shorter coverage than a clear 5-year warranty.

Transferability

The warranty is transferable to a new homeowner in a real estate transaction for a one-time administrative fee ($199). The transfer requires:

  • Original homeowner’s invoice / warranty document
  • New homeowner’s contact information
  • Payment of the transfer fee

Transfer is handled within 5 business days. Once transferred, the warranty continues on the original work for the new homeowner.

When to call us

If you’re considering significant chimney work — reline, masonry rebuild, crown reconstruction, post-fire restoration — the warranty matters. We’ll explain coverage clearly upfront and document it on the invoice.

FAQ

Is the warranty in writing?

Yes — on every invoice for warranted work, with explicit terms.

What if I sell my home — does the next owner get the warranty?

Yes, with a one-time transfer for a $199 administrative fee.

Are sweeps and inspections covered?

Sweeps and inspections are services, not workmanship-warranted projects. The findings of an inspection are warranted in the sense that we stand behind our diagnosis.

Does the warranty cover damage from a chimney fire after my work?

Only if the chimney fire was caused by our workmanship (extremely rare). Chimney fires from inadequate maintenance after our work aren’t covered.

Is the warranty registered somewhere?

We maintain records internally. Your invoice is the primary warranty document.

What happens if PCE goes out of business?

The warranty is a company commitment. We’ve operated continuously and intend to keep doing so. Manufacturer component warranties continue regardless.

Can I add a service contract for ongoing maintenance?

Yes — annual service plans are available separately and cover routine sweep, inspection, and minor repair maintenance.
